CREATING INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH CINEMA
On 5/6/7 September, atThe company and theOblate Library the meeting will be held in Florence “CLOSE: INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS & SEL THROUGH CINEMA, CREATING INCLUSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH CINEMA”training meeting of the Erasmus project of which we are part.
CLOSE intends to share, compare and enhance the experiences and skills of teachers in the use of cinema and visual communication as an educational practice, to improve both the quality of individual and class group training, and the quality of audiovisual products produced by teenagers .
The project was born from the belief that visual communication and its central product, quality cinema, have
a strong potential as a teaching tool capable of positively influencing cognitive processes and
encourage critical reflection and the diffusion of responsible and inclusive attitudes among young people.
The CLOSE project consists of 2 phases, one analytical-critical and one experimental: from ‘Knowing Cinema’, which highlights relevant socio-cultural contents and the ways in which they are expressed, we arrive at ‘Making Cinema’, making a short film with the class group, in workshops called CinemaLab, where it will be possible to create their own representation of situations of interest: students will ‘make’ human stories and situations their own through their own interpretation and authorship, on topics of social, cultural, environmental, historical, scientific relevance, of their choice , with the possibility of carrying out research, discussing it, studying it in depth and communicating it.

CLOSE is a key to inclusive teaching, allowing both to learn about new human contexts and take on innovative points of view on complex social realities, and to learn to manage emotions and feelings through Social Emotional Learning-SEL: seeing a film “up close”, analyzing it together and above all making one – necessarily collective activity – requires collaborative and respectful attitudes towards the roles of others, useful in preventing bullying and aggression in confrontation and negotiation with different opinions and interpretations.
At the end of the project, the results and films produced will be presented in Florence during a dedicated event of the International Film and Women Festival 2025 Edition.
